Latest Information from Pier Avenue Baptist Church

Dear Friends,On Monday 23rd November, the Prime Minister gave an update concerning the end of the current lockdown and the move to a revised three tier system.  Whilst we have not, as yet, been advised which tier we will come under, Church services are permitted under the tier system although they will be subject to local restrictions.

Any “live” service would be subject to the usual COVID restrictions. This means that we are still not allowed to sing and face coverings will have to be worn. However, we do want to give you some ways in which you can, in this season of Advent and Christmas, worship God.  This is our plan for Christmas 2020 as things stand at the moment:

Sunday 29th November
Available online and via CD / DVD as lockdown is still in place.

Sunday 6th December
Live service at Pier Avenue starting at 10:30am.
Service also available online and via CD / DVD.

Sunday 13th December
Live service at Pier Avenue starting at 10:30am.
Service also available online and via CD / DVD.

Sunday 20th December
Projection of pre-recorded service at Pier Avenue starting at 10:30am – this is because it is a carol service and others will be taking part.
Service also available online and via CD / DVD.

Christmas Day
Available online and via CD / DVD only.
There will be no live service at Pier Avenue this year. This is to allow folks to spend time with their own families for as long as possible, assuming this is allowed.

27th December
Available online and via CD / DVD only.
There will be no live service at Pier Avenue today.

3rd January 2021
Live service at Pier Avenue starting at 10:30am.  This will include Holy Communion in accordance with COVID guidelines.
Service also available online and via CD / DVD and will also include Holy Communion..

What You Need To Know
You will need to pre-book your place as there will only be room for 40. If, after booking in, you are not able to attend, you must let us know so your space can be offered to someone else.
There will be a socially distanced queueing system outside the building prior to doors opening at 10:15.

  • Anyone over the age of 11 will need to wear a face covering (unless you are exempt)
  • You will need to sanitise your hands on entry.
  • You will need to be asked to give your details for test and trace.
  • You will be shown to a seat – you may not be able to sit in your “usual place”.
  • Once you are shown to a seat, you will not be allowed to get up and wander around to socialise.
  • Doors will be closed at 10:30, or when we are at capacity.
  • Although the heating will be on prior to the service.  The heating system is an “air recirculating system”, we are not able to run it once people start to enter the building.  Please wrap up warm!
  • There will be no congregational singing.
  • Toilets will not be available (except in dire urgency!).
  • The service will finish at 11am, and no refreshments will be served afterwards.
  • You will be guided out of the building by the duty deacons.
  • The building will be sanitised following the service.
  • It is with regret that we are not able to offer a minibus service at this time.
  • There will be very limited parking at the church. Please park elsewhere if possible.
  • Please be on time to the service. If you have not arrived by 10:30, your place may be offered to someone else.

If things do not run as smoothly as we would like, please bear with us!

To Book In

There are two ways that you can book in.  Firstly, online.  Please click on this link and follow the instructions https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/pabc.

Alternatively, if you are not able to book in online, you can call our booking line on (01255) 482007.

IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE:  You will need to book week by week.  We cannot accept block bookings.

Once you have booked, if you find that you are not able to attend, please let us know ASAP so we can offer your place to somebody else.

Please do not “just turn up” if you have not pre booked.  We may not be able to let you in.

We ask that anyone who is unwell with COVID like symptoms does not attend the Church. We also respectfully ask those who fall into the “vulnerable” category, to consider the risks before they return.

There are many reasons why somebody may not be able to come back to church at this stage.  Whatever the reason, we want you to know that you are still a valued member of the Fellowship at Pier Avenue which is why we will continue to provide the CD or DVD and maintain our online presence.

We will be monitoring the situation both locally and nationally and will follow the guidelines issued by the Baptist Union of Great Britain, The Eastern Baptist Association and The Government.

If there are questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Church Office and we will do our best to help.

Every blessing
