Egypt
* The Hadana
Kindergarten, in a very poor area of
Cairo, offers low-cost, often free care for up to 50
children, aged between two and six years. While they
are in this safe environment, their mothers are
able to go out to earn a salary that is so vital
to their families.
*
Shams El Birr, on the outskirts
of Cairo, provides education and care to children and
young adults with
disabilities. The children are encouraged to discover their
talents in areas such as music, art and craft.
*
The Salaam Centre in Cairo
works with the Zabaleen community, who live and work
among the rubbish of the
city. The Centre has a special programme for children
under five years old who are often treated for burns, cuts
or other minor injuries that they get from the rubbish that
they live and play in.
